Mutts (7/19/08)

This is a bittersweet strip for me to post. I spent Saturday morning at the veterinarian and as I waited to take my mother’s cat in for a routine checkup a woman ran through the front door shouting for a doctor. She was followed by a distraught pet owner and a man carrying a dog that had been hit by two cars. The attendant rushed the dog into one of the exam rooms only to have a doctor emerge a few moments later to deliver the bad news. The dog had died, its days of chasing baseballs through the park cut short by a pair of thoughtless drivers. Today’s Mutts reminds me of the playful spirit that all dogs seem to have and of the terrible loss that owner must now endure.
