Get Fuzzy (1/16/09)

As a lifelong Cubs fan, I appreciate the implication that there is no psychologically healthy way to support the team. My fellow Cubs fans have a habit of reinforcing this notion. They drink Old Style at the ballpark. They curse the White Sox for no good reason. They stumble blindly through the maze of “Cubness.” While I’ll never stop rooting for the Cubs, I also try to take a practical approach. It’s no mean feat for a professional baseball team to go 100 years without a championship (and 63 years without a pennant) so I try to enjoy the wins and take the losses in stride. And who knows, if the Tampa Bay Rays can win the pennant then maybe the Cubs can too.
