I’ve only been to jury duty once in my life, although I’m sure making that claim will bring a summons in the not-too-distant future. What was it like? In a word: boring. I spent the better part of a day shuttling from room to room of the county courthouse, reading newspapers and waiting to be told I could go home. Although I was called into a courtroom and asked to sit in a jury box (which was actually kind of cool) I ended up being part of the first group of potential jurors to be dismissed. As I pulled out of the parking lot, I heard the Michael Jackson verdict announced over the radio and was reminded of the peculiarities of our legal system. All in all, it was a bizarre day. I was compensated approximately $45 for my troubles.
