Cul de Sac (12/2/09)

I’m not a huge fan of fountains, although I do enjoy Buckingham Fountain in Chicago. It’s crazy collection of spouts is impressive even from a distance, and even after gallons of windswept spray have muddied the red clay mixture that covers the grounds. Buckingham Fountain is something of a marvel, although I don’t think I’d want a replica of one for Christmas. That said, I would definitely relish a copy of the National Geographic that contains the article, “Big, Ugly Fountains: Eyesores of the Baroque.”
