Cul de Sac (1/2/10)

Today’s Cul de Sac may focus on comic strip ephemera, but it also reminds me of my distaste for DVD bonus footage. There’s something inherently narcissistic about the “making of” documentary, what with its precious actors, droning producers, and groggy directors who can’t help spouting inanities in the editing room. The filmmaking process is not interesting or exciting when seen in 45-minute segments from the comfort of one’s living room. If I really enjoy a movie, I’ll seek out some intelligent criticism. Or I’ll just watch the movie a second time. Anything to avoid the monotonous “extras” that someone, somewhere thought would be entertaining.
