Frazz (3/12/10)

Later this month, I’ll be landing in Rome to start a two-week tour of Italy with my wife. The occasion? Our honeymoon, of course. Neither of us has ever been to Italy, but we did take in an exhibit on the doomed city of Pompeii when it came through Chicago a few years ago. In a lot of ways, it was a standard museum exhibit featuring standard museum exhibit-type things: artifacts, placards, a slickly produced video. But interspersed with these novelties were casts of the volcano’s victims, showing the last moments of their lives. It was an odd mix of the academic and the profound, and it made me very curious to see the ruins in person.
