Pickles (7/1/10)

I know I’m not the first person to say this, but it seems like we’re living through a crisis of authority in which there are few common truths and virtually no universally respected sources. Take any issue and you will find a mix of hardheaded partisanship, willful ignorance, and aggressive opinion running through the body politic. Underlining all of this is the belief that experts in any field (global warming, evolution, economics) are nothing more than pompous bureaucrats pursuing an agenda. Do some people fit that mold? Certainly, but the notion that everyone in authority is compromised strikes me as both paranoid and a little too convenient.
