Bizarro (9/7/10)

Some days go by without anything happening; there’s nothing to talk about, nothing to think about, nothing to spark the imagination. Today was not one of those days. Today, Chicago’s mayor for life, Richard M. Daley, announced that he would not run for re-election. In less than a year, Chicago will have a new mayor. How long has Daley held the job? When he was first elected in 1989, the Berlin Wall was intact, the Chicago Bulls had never won an NBA championship, and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System had not been released. I do not personally remember another individual serving as mayor of Chicago. The fact that Daley is retiring is an absolute shock.
